Youth and beauty are over-rated!

Morning! A man walks up to a Zen Buddhist hot dog vendor and says “Make me one with everything”. Yes, I know you groaned. The man hands over a ten pound note. The Buddhist replies “Do you have anything smaller? I’m afraid I can’t offer you any change!” Ok. I’m stopping now. Maybe it’s because I’m British, or maybe it’s simply human, but I’ve never much liked the sound of my own voice, or the sight of myself in most pictures (I am genuinely very un-photogenic though!) Over the years I’ve learned to stop caring. I realised that for the most part, no-one else cares, or notices! I mean you’d have to drop at least three stones in weight before anyone says to you “Er…have you lost some weight?” It

Why being a therapist is a privilege!

I’m back at work as a therapist and it’s busy! I’ve also just begun recording You Can Fix Your Anxiety in audio book format, and that is turning out to be quite a job! Audible’s standards are EXTREMELY exacting! Not even a breath may be left in! In fact, they’re so precise that I had to scrap two full days work and go back to the drawing board. Even with over twenty years of audio engineering skills and music production I’ve found it challenging. Every sentence requires careful delivery and there is much post production editing work, but it will make it all the more satisfying when I launch it knowing that it’s a TOP QUALITY product! So, I wanted to share something with you that I was thinki

Tackling Anxiety Is An Art.

It’s not difficult to find information about tackling anxiety. The hard part is knowing how to apply it correctly. Mindfulness, CBT, NLP, Acceptance Therapy, Self-Hypnosis. I don’t have a bad word to say about any of it. These are the tools which will do the job. Here’s the thing though…they are just tools, and it doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about master sushi chefs, carpenters, mechanics, or geneticists, the tools are only useful when you know how to use them skilfully. Anxiety is often an underestimated foe. The latest self-help book will have you believe that if you follow the step by step process presented, you’ll be as right as rain in a couple of months. Anxiety though, needs

Making Beauty In the World

Six or seven years ago I took up silversmithing for a couple of years as a hobby. I believe my good friend Grace is the owner of the piece above. I may get back to it one day, but it was enormously time-consuming and I've had too much else to do. I flirted with the idea that I might do it as a new career, but the figures would never add up! The materials alone cost more than you could buy ready-made stuff in the shops which brings me nicely to my point.... Sometimes, we just do stuff for the LOVE of it. You may be familiar with the awesome sand paintings which Tibetan Buddhists make as TEMPORARY art. Once it's finished, it's destroyed ceremonially. These paintings are a meditation on the imp

Hi! Welcome!

Well, let me say a few words about the intention for this blog. The truth is, there are endless anxiety and depression blogs out there filled with great advice and daily tips for coping etc. I champion all of that, and long may they continue, but "ten ways to beat anxiety" has been written to death, and the intention for this blog is for it to be a little bit different!

I’m leaving the door open to muse on whatever might be interesting, but it will usually root back to minimising stress in some way. There's certainly room for a little philosophical thought here too!

Anyway…that’s what you can expect. I hope you’ll enjoy it! I’m looking forward to writing, and I hope you'll find plenty of inspiring food for thought! Thanks for being here! Back to Blogs!
